twigs in profile

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

My husband AK is having his first photography exhibit “Twigs in Profile” showcasing images of tree silhouettes from various locations in the Los Angeles area.  His curiosity in photography was first sparked when my Uncle Eddy gave us his unused Canon 20D a few years ago.  Since then, AK has acquired a few more fancy lenses and has amassed quite a portfolio of images from a wide variety of experiences ranging from daily life of family and friends to special events like the San Diego Comic Con and Anime Expo.  Among my favorites are photos of our funny and ornery Polly (aka PollyBear, P-Dog, Beast, and PollyPoops).  I also especially like these portraits of our nephew Sinjin taken on the day his baby sister Zoe was born.  Visit AK’s flickr site to see more of his work.

pippi longstocking

Ask my Mom or my Grandma, and they will tell you that I LOVED Pippi Longstocking when I was a kid growing up in the 70s.  She was the toughest girl badass with a heart of gold and I wanted to be just like her.  Not much has changed really.  I have the full Pippi DVD box set, I unashamedly copy her sense of fashion with kooky Pippi-inspired smocks, and I’m always inspired by her wacky home that she shares with her horse and monkey.  Next thing on my list is getting in a hot air balloon for some unexpected adventures!  Pippi is my hero… (Photos from this site about Sweden)

orla kiely

So this morning I went about my usual business of reading my daily blogroll…and I nearly peed in my pants when I came across this newsflash on one of my top favorite blogsORLA KIELY’S NEW FURNITURE LINE!!!!!  My love affair with Orla Kiely began in the late 90s when I first became obsessed with her collection of handbags.  The graphic patterns and bold colors seized my heart and wouldn’t let go.  Since then I’ve been a devoted follower eagerly awaiting each new season like some crazed addict jittering to get her fix.  Don’t ask me how many Orla bags I have because it’s quite embarassing. So imagine my sheer joy when I learned about her expansion into the furniture and interior world.  Here are just a few images of my favorite pieces that I want to share.  Unfortunately the collection is exclusive to Heal’s in the UK and they don’t ship overseas…so boohoo for me.  Although this could be seen as a good thing…otherwise our finances could be in trouble as I obsessively furnish our home with all things Orla. We passed by these little guys on our way home from Palm Springs this past weekend.  I think visitors have access to climb through their innards and poop out from their ferocious jaws.  We opted out since the temperature was well over 100 degrees, but maybe next time I’ll be able to convince AK to make the climb to the top.  (Photos taken by my iPhone through the car windshield because it was too hot to get out of the car or even roll down the windows)

ugly ghost

Monday, September 8th, 2008

I saw this and laughed because it reminded me of how I feel at times: ugly, plushy, and gray with an all-over general sense of blobbiness.  Sticking out my tongue and flapping my arms is one of my favorite activities during rush hour when I’m raging at dumbass drivers. eezy breezy

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

As much as I don’t want to admit, I am wallowing in a pretty bad case of “woe-is-me”.  I know I live a charmed life and in moments of utter despair I remind myself how lucky I am.  But truth be told, as much as I try to be happy sometimes, it just doesn’t work.  It’s been a wild rollercoaster of emotions lately, and at this point, I’m on auto-pilot, numbly moving through the day, doing what I need to do to get to the next point, and focusing my energy on keeping my shit together so that I don’t fall apart.  It is what it is…I’m dealing with it…but I’m also getting sick and tired of it.  I look forward to being easy breezy again…like how my good friend LL is right now.
