Here are a few of my favorite selections from Orla Kiely’s new spring/summer 2009 collection of bags. If you’re a regular reader, you’ll know that I’m a die-hard fan and Orla can do no wrong in my mind. This new collection surely does not disappoint and choosing one is an impossibility. The new “Garden Tortoise” pattern comes in several different colorways…and after much deliberation…I concluded that I love them all equally. Sadly, purchasing any of these bags for myself is not an option right now…but somehow posting them here makes me feel like they are already part of my personal collection. My friend JH in NY sent this link to me today from Apartment Therapy and I nearly died from overwhelming excitement – ORLA KIELY at all Target locations starting February 1! After desperately researching online for further details, I also found similar announcements at Decor8 and SFGirlByBay (both excellent design blogs that I read on a regular basis). In fact this news is all over the design blogosphere and people are talking about camping out at their local Target stores in order to get their hands on some of this retro cool stuff. Holy hell…what am I going to do? I want all of it…the mugs, platters, serving trays, oven mitt, apron, organizing containers…and I can’t even begin to imagine the possibility of different colorways…(Photos from Decor8)

notes, lists and doodles

I had planned to post this yesterday, but things got a little busy…so I’m hoping to do a double post today to catch up. Anyway, here are three journal/notebooks by Orla Kiely that I recently got in exchange for an unwanted holiday gift. I love how the patterns are so simple yet playfully sophisticated at the same time. There are lined pages, grid pages and blank pages inside…all perforated and designed with Orla’s signature stem print along the side. They are almost too cute to use, but who am I kidding…of course I’m going to use them…so then I can justify getting more!

I love interior spaces that are multi-layered with contrasting yet complementary shapes, patterns, colors and textures…and one of the easiest ways to add this type of visual interest is to use wallpaper (an important lesson that I learned while working for the fearlessly fierce Kelly Wearstler). And since Orla Kiely has her own collection of wallpapers and I am such a freak about all things Orla, it’s hardly a surprise that I want to plaster these all throughout my own house. The playful designs are very retro mid-century modern and can easily adapt to a myriad of interior spaces. I can’t wait to share photos of the interior of our home when it’s finally done. So this morning I went about my usual business of reading my daily blogroll…and I nearly peed in my pants when I came across this newsflash on one of my top favorite blogs – ORLA KIELY’S NEW FURNITURE LINE!!!!! My love affair with Orla Kiely began in the late 90s when I first became obsessed with her collection of handbags. The graphic patterns and bold colors seized my heart and wouldn’t let go. Since then I’ve been a devoted follower eagerly awaiting each new season like some crazed addict jittering to get her fix. Don’t ask me how many Orla bags I have because it’s quite embarassing. So imagine my sheer joy when I learned about her expansion into the furniture and interior world. Here are just a few images of my favorite pieces that I want to share. Unfortunately the collection is exclusive to Heal’s in the UK and they don’t ship overseas…so boohoo for me. Although this could be seen as a good thing…otherwise our finances could be in trouble as I obsessively furnish our home with all things Orla. (Photos from Heal’s website)
